At the Main Street Bistro, the food preparation is flawless, the entrees are bountiful and the service is superb.  The dishes are mostly traditional Italian and are both flavorful & rich.  Originally opened in 1996 by the Ferraro Family, restaurateurs for over forty years, (Ferraro’s in Westfield & the Primavera Regency in Stirling), it was  purchased by myself & my wife Lorenzina Ciccia in January 2003.

Though my past 20 years have been spent in various executive positions with major corporate America, I felt a more personally rewarding career change was needed.  So I hung up my corporate “briefcase” and went to work  managing, serving and cooking at the restaurant.

I come to this business steeped in Italian food tradition.  My maternal Great Grandfather, Giacomo Cipriano was the Chef/Owner of “Palermo’s”, a home style Italian eatery on Elizabeth Street in Little Italy from the early 1920’s until it’s closing in 1947, due to a serious illness.  Palermo’s provided Sicilian home style “peasant cooking” for the street push cart vendors and local residents as well as a certain class of notorious, but colorful business people of Sicilian background.

My paternal Great Grandfather, Francesco Torregrossa, described in his 1903 Ellis Island entrance papers as a ”Macaronist”, started, owned & operated La Rosa Macaroni Company in New York in the early 1900’s.  He ran La Rosa until he sold it in 1948 to one of the nation’s current largest pasta companies.

My maternal Grandfather, Domiano “Tommy” Cipriano was also a chef. He earned his cooking stripes in the Army Aircorp during WW II while stationed in the Pacific Theater.

The standards of excellence in food preparation, presentation & service will continue. The long tenured & skillful staff will remain in place.

The Main Street Bistro presents a menu filled with mouth watering specialties ranging from freshly prepared hot & cold appetizers to homemade pastas, seafood, veal, chicken & grilled meats. The Main Street Bistro has specialty desserts made fresh on premise.

The Main Street Bistro enjoys a superior reputation earned over the years for the succulence of its dishes. It is a winner in the local newspapers 2002 “One of the Best of Central New Jersey” award and is featured in the “NJ 125” which is an in-depth look at New Jersey’s finest restaurants.
